A new Paul Halter short in EQMM

The March/April issue contains ‘The Helm of Hades’, the 13th Halter story in EQMM, and my 12th.                                                That makes 24 EQMM stories in all from me, with the 25th coming up in the July/August 2019 issue.                                       The indefatigable Jim Noy (“JJ”) has given his ranking of all the Halter shorts published in English so far:

#504: Little Fictions – ‘The Helm of Hades’ (2019) by Paul Halter [trans. John Pugmire 2019] + Ranking the Translated Short Stories

Opinions may vary about the ranking, but I certainly agree that ‘The Cleaver’ deserves to be right up there.

Hmm, that makes 10 uncollected Halter stories…

  1. Why not compile a mixed collection of stories that have only appeared in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine? You have uncollected stories from Szu-Yen Lin (“The Ghost of the Badminton Court”), Soji Shimada (“The Executive Who Lost His Mind” and “The Running Dead”), Kago Saburo (“The Spider”) and Christianna Brand (“Bank Holiday Murder”). Throw in some of Paul Halter’s uncollected stories and mixed it up with some new material, you have a pretty solid impossible crime anthology.

You can call it The Department of Miracles (a nod to EQ) or Paul Halter and Accomplices.

    1. A very reasonable suggestion from a highly-recommended blog! However, I have already committed the second collection to Paul. Nevertheless, in addition to the items TomCat cited, there are more in the pipeline and a second anthology is a distinct possibility… eventually.
